Changes to Blood Tests - 26 August 2021

Currently there is a temporary national shortage of blood test bottles, which is expected to last until 17 September.

Unfortunately, this is affecting every healthcare service provider and we have been requested by NHS England to pause all non-urgent blood tests.

We will carefully assess all required blood tests to determine those that can be safely delayed. We will update patients when more information on the shortages changes. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

This clinic assesses and treats: pregnant women with pain and/or bleeding in early pregnancy up to 16 weeks, pregnant women with high risk of an ectopic (outside the womb) pregnancy, women who are not pregnant and have been admitted to hospital with sudden severe pelvic pain.

The Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) is open to any women who is less than 14 weeks pregnant who is experiencing symptoms they find concerning (e.g. bleeding or pain), or who is unsure of the dates of their pregnancy.
